Patrick focuses on the preparation and prosecution of US and international applications for patent, trademark, design, plant patent and plant variety protection certificate, copyright, and related intellectual property rights; performing patentability searches; and preparing non-infringement, invalidity, freedom to use, and opposition opinions. He also helps clients monetize and protect intellectual property assets through negotiating licensing, assignment, trade secret, confidentiality, and other business agreements, and enforcing those rights in a court of law.
Patrick’s intellectual property subject matter expertise includes botanical and data science and large data set analysis, image data acquisition and processing, video analytics, electronic circuitry and associated programmable devices, service-oriented architecture and service technology, computer networking and data packet communications, processing chip structures and design, medical imaging and instrumentation, metal and substrate treatment and conditioning, and a rich variety of commercial and consumer tooling, appliances and associated articles.
Patrick also served as a professional firefighter while developing his intellectual property practice, until retiring in 2008 as a Captain of the Cleveland Fire Department. Services included interpretation and enforcement of fire, life safety, building and hazardous materials codes and referenced standards in criminal, civil, and administrative law proceedings; and command of fire companies and fire stations while directly providing emergency medical and fire suppression services to the public.
